UPI Fingerprint or face authentication Payment Rollout Starts Without Entering UPI PIN

A new UPI payment feature has started rolling out. Users can now make payments without entering a UPI PIN. The payment works using only fingerprint or Face authentication. The feature was announced in October 2025 and is now becoming active.
Users need to open their UPI app and go to Manage Payments. They must set up Biometric in settings. After setup, payments can be completed using fingerprint & Face authentication instead of PIN.
Face ID is also supported for payment. However, fingerprint authentication is considered more secure. The payment limit is currently ₹5,000 per transaction.
The feature is now available on PhonePe and Amazon Pay. It is not yet available on Paytm and Google Pay. Rollout for other apps is expected soon.
The system has been tested and is working during early rollout. More users will receive the update in the coming days.
How to Enable Biometric Payments: Users can set up the feature in a few simple steps:
-
-
- Open the PhonePe app.
- Go to Profile.
- Tap on Manage Payments.
- Tap on the Biometric Pay Icon.
- Enable Biometric Authentication for UPI Payments for respective Bank accounts.
- Confirm using your UPI PIN and Biometric for a one-time setup.

The feature is currently available for Android users, supporting both fingerprint and facial recognition capabilities, with iOS functionality expected to launch shortly.
