South African cheetah Gamini is the mother. She first gave birth to three cubs on February 18, 2026. Teams later found the fourth one through intensive checks.Union Environment Minister Bhupender Yadav shared the update. He said the birth shows strong progress in Project Cheetah. The project focuses on scientific management and conservation. It marks a key step in India’s cheetah reintroduction program.

The total number of cheetahs in India now stands at 39. This includes 28 cubs born in the country. The growth highlights success in bringing back cheetahs after they went extinct in India decades ago.Gamini came to India from South Africa. She is part of the effort to rebuild a stable cheetah population in suitable habitats like Kuno National Park in Madhya Pradesh.
The healthy cubs point to good conditions for breeding. Project Cheetah continues to monitor the animals closely.
