India–EU Free Trade Agreement (mother of all deals)

India and the European Union have signed a major Free Trade Agreement that is being widely described as the “mother of all deals.” This historic agreement brings new opportunities for India’s 1.4 billion people and millions across Europe and shows strong cooperation between two of the world’s largest economies. Talks for this deal first began in 2007 but were paused in 2013 before restarting again in 2022.
The agreement now covers nearly 25 percent of the global economy and about one-third of global trade. The European Union is currently India’s largest trading partner, and the deal is expected to give fresh strength to economic ties in the coming years. India exports a wide range of services to Europe, while European companies plan to expand their presence in India, especially in electronics, machinery, and equipment.

The agreement is expected to benefit nearly one million Indian companies and boost trade in sectors such as cars, medicines, and chemical products. Along with trade, the deal also strengthens shared values like democracy and the rule of law.
