Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government has full stop on tobacco and nicotine items. On January 22, 2026, the Health & Family Welfare Department gave a new order. Now, no one can make, pack, store, move, sell, or even mix tobacco or nicotine products in Odisha.
This is a big step to keep people healthy, especially to stop mouth cancer and other diseases that come from chewing tobacco.
What is Banned Now?
* Gutkha
*Pan masala with tobacco
*Zarda
*Khaini
*All chewable tobacco
*Flavored or scented tobacco
*Nicotine pouches
*Any food item mixed with tobacco or nicotine (even if sold separately but meant to mix)
*Both packed and unpacked items
The ban covers almost all chewable and smokeless tobacco products. Odisha has many people who chew tobacco. This causes high cases of oral cancer and other health problems. The government wants to protect public health, stop youth from starting this habit, and reduce hospital load from tobacco diseases. This order follows Supreme Court directions and makes the rules stronger across the whole state.
