Odisha tops NITI Aayog Fiscal Health Index 2023-24. The state achieved the No.1 rank in the country with a score of 73.1. This is according to the Fiscal Health Index released by NITI Aayog.The second-ranked state scored only 54. Odisha stood far ahead in the rankings. NITI Aayog evaluates states on several parameters. These include quality of expenditure, revenue mobilisation, fiscal prudence, debt index, and debt sustainability.

Odisha leads the nation in fiscal health. The state showed strong performance in every parameter. It excelled in quality of expenditure and revenue mobilisation. Odisha also demonstrated fiscal prudence and reduced its loan burden. The state moved from a near bankruptcy situation in 2000 to become the top performer. This journey reflects vision and good governance. Odisha achieved this under principles of transformative management. No other state with similar governance model reached this level.

Odisha tops NITI Aayog Fiscal Health Index 2023-24 due to sustained fiscal stability. This allowed the state to invest in many people-centric programs. Key initiatives include Biju Swasthya Kalyan Yojana (BSKY), KALIA scheme, Mission Shakti, skill development, Odisha School Transformation, tribal development, disaster management, infrastructure projects, irrigation, poverty alleviation, and its own food security scheme.The state funded these programs on its own. It did not wait for central government support. Odisha thanks its people for partnering in this progress.

Former Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik shared pride in Odisha’s achievement. He said prudent fiscal management led to the top rank. Odisha not only led but was comprehensively ahead. He noted satisfaction in the journey from fiscal weakness to leadership. Patnaik highlighted excellence in all fiscal parameters. He expressed worry over current financial management by the present government. He said it risks pushing the state toward bankruptcy and reversing development gains by 25 years. He hoped good sense would prevail.

Odisha’s strong fiscal health supports continued investments in welfare and infrastructure. People benefit from stable funding for health, agriculture, women empowerment, education, and disaster response programs. The state maintains low debt levels and controls deficits. This ensures long-term financial stability. Residents can expect ongoing focus on development without heavy reliance on central aid.
