The Padma Awards 2026 were announced today on the eve of Republic Day (January 25, 2026)

Padma Awards one of the highest civilian Awards of Our country, are conferred in three categories, namely, Padma Vibhushan, Padma Bhushan and Padma Shri.
Honouring exceptional contributions in various fields like art, literature, medicine, social work, sports, and public affairs. The Government of India has approved 131 Padma Awards this year, including 5 Padma Vibhushan, 13 Padma Bhushan, and 113 Padma Shri.

This year’s list features 19 women recipients, 16 posthumous awards, and several recognitions for unsung heroes and grassroots workers. The awards will be presented by Our President Droupadi Murmu in ceremonial functions, likely in March or April 2026.

Odisha has reason to celebrate with four personalities receiving the Padma Shri — the highest number from the state this cycle — in art and literature. These awards highlight Odisha’s rich cultural heritage and contributions to tribal languages and traditional arts.

Notable : recipients include cricket captain Rohit Sharma (Sports, Maharashtra), legendary actor Dharmendra (posthumous, Art), playback singer Alka Yagnik (Art), and actor Mammootty (Art).

Odisha Recipients in Padma Shri 2026 :

Shri Charan Hembram (Literature and Education)
A prominent Santali author and cultural activist from Odisha, recognized for his lifelong work in promoting the Santali language, literature, and tribal arts. His efforts have helped preserve and popularize Santali scripts.

Shri Mahendra Kumar Mishra  (Literature and Education)
Honoured for contributions to folklore, tribal studies, and education in Odisha. Known for documenting oral traditions, folk tales, and indigenous knowledge systems of tribal communities.

Shri Sarat Kumar Patra  (Art)
Recognized for excellence in traditional Odisha art forms, likely painting or folk art, preserving cultural motifs and techniques passed down through generations.

Shri Simanchal Patro  (Art)
Awarded for his mastery in Odisha’s classical and folk arts, contributing to the state’s vibrant performing and visual arts scene.
