Prime Minister Narendra Modi has started a major HPV vaccination drive to protect 14-year-old girls from cervical cancer across India

HPV Vaccination drive has begun across India. Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched the nationwide HPV vaccination program for 14-year-old girls on February 28, 2026. He started the campaign from Ajmer in Rajasthan.The launch took place at an event in Kayad, Ajmer. Several girls received the vaccine on the spot. Prime Minister Modi also spoke with the girls who got vaccinated.

The program targets about 1.15 crore girls aged 14 years every year. It covers all States and Union Territories. The goal is to prevent cervical cancer and support women’s health.The vaccine is free of cost. It will be given at government health facilities. These include Ayushman Arogya Mandirs (Primary Health Centres), Community Health Centres, Sub-District Hospitals, District Hospitals, and Government Medical Colleges and Hospitals. The program comes under the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.

A single-dose quadrivalent HPV vaccine called Gardasil 4 is used. It protects against HPV types 16 and 18, which cause cervical cancer, and types 6 and 11.Prime Minister Narendra Modi said the campaign will make girls stronger. He posted on X that this step aims to prevent cervical cancer.

This HPV vaccination drive marks a big step in preventive healthcare. It helps eliminate cervical cancer in the long run. It also advances the vision of a healthier India for women.Parents and guardians should take 14-year-old girls to the nearest government health facility. Girls can get the vaccine free there. The program runs in mission mode. Eligible girls can receive it daily at designated centers.
