SEBI has launched the Verified App Label Initiative to strengthen investor protection against fraudulent mobile applications.
SEBI Chairman Tuhin Kanta Pandey launched the initiative on Wednesday. The move aims to help users easily spot genuine apps from SEBI-registered intermediaries on the Google Play Store.SEBI is taking strong steps to monitor digital platforms. The regulator actively tracks misleading investment-related content online.
More than 1.3 lakh such instances have been escalated to platforms for takedown. Around 66 cases of fake trading apps have also been reported to app stores and removed.The Verified App Label Initiative provides a clear visual badge for verified apps. This badge will make it harder for fraudsters to impersonate real financial services applications.SEBI Chairman Tuhin Kanta Pandey stated that digital platforms are being actively monitored for misleading investment-related content.
The initiative forms part of broader efforts by SEBI to safeguard retail investors in the digital space. It works alongside other tools such as validated UPI handles for payments to registered intermediaries.Investors should now check for the verified label before downloading any trading or investment app. They must also use official sources to confirm the authenticity of any platform asking for money or personal details.
